Police in continue to look for the person responsible for the death of an Oakridge couple and their dog at a campsite back in July of 2005.
The bodies of Steven Haugen and Jeanette Bauman were found off a forest service road about 25 miles south of Oakridge. The pair, along with Haugen's dog, had been shot. Detectives say the couple didn't appear to be robbed, but they can't say for sure what, if anything, was taken. However, the license plate on Haugen's vehicle were found missing by investigators.
Haugen and Bauman were both teachers, having met in Montana in 2000, then moving to Washington and eventually Oregon. Bauman moved to Oakridge after Haugen finished his first year teaching there. She moved just two weeks before they were killed.
There has never been a suspect in the case, only people of interest. All tips and leads have turned out to be dead ends. Investigators hope that the license plates taken off Haugen's vehicle will eventually show up, or that other personal items belonging to the couple will be found.
If you have any information about this double homicide, call the Crimestoppers line at 1-800-3-DETECT. You could earn up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. The Haugen and Bauman families are also offering a $5,000 reward for new information leading to an arrest and conviction.
