SALEM, Ore. -- The official count is in. Medical marijuana is now on the Oregon November ballot.
Voters will determine if users should be allowed to buy from state-regulated dispensaries.
The Secretary of State says enough valid signatures are in for Measure 28 to get on the ballot -- nearly 83,000 names.
The initiative would allow non-profit organizations to create state-regulated dispensaries, which could sell the drug to medical marijuana card holders. Right now, they must grow it themselves or have someone grow it for them. If the measure passes in November, people can still grow medical marijuana at home with a license.
One woman says she's relieved it got on the ballot and hopes enough 'yes' votes in November will help her sick husband.
"His appetite, the way he sleeps, it's very important for him. And if he could just go to a dispensary and purchase it, it would be so much more convenient," said Beverly Tierney.
"I think that's cool, as long as you're still allowed to grow it. I don't see a problem with it," said Daniel Robinson.
"It would make it a lot easier for people to not have to hide it, and not have to try and be sneaky," said Bret Barton.
Local supporters of Measure 28 will now be hitting the streets with November in mind. Expect to see volunteers putting up signs all over the state throughout the next few months.
Another measure that received enough signatures to get on the November ballot will let voters decide if there should be tougher prison terms for repeat sex offenders. Initiative 13 would send repeat rapists to prison for 25 years.

Kind of ironic that some
Kind of ironic that some people recognize rape as a crime but fail to recognize self ownership as a right.
When rape is criminalized we are saying, hands off somebody elses body. That is a good thing.
When we allow arrest and incarceration of peaceful people for using cannabis, we are effectively saying it is permissable for somebody to control anothers body. That is a bad thing.
Can anybody else see the irony here ? RAPISTS and PROHIBITIONISTS have alot in common don't they, neither can keep their hands of other people's bodies.
Who owns your body?
