According to Oregon State Police, Tyler Boyer of Redmond was driving west on Highway 402 just outside of Monument in Grant county when he veered on to the gravel shoulder. It appears Boyer tried to bring his 2006 Toyota pickup back on the road but lost control, rolling the truck. Boyer and nineteen year old passenger William Lovejoy of John Day were both wearing seatbelts and airbags did deploy, but it wasn't enough, Boyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Lovejoy was transported to a hospital in Boise with serious injuries.

Seven people are injured in a head on collision just south of Madras on Highway 97 yesterday. The accident, just after three o'clock, closed the highway for several hours while rescue crews worked to free the passengers. Sixty five year old William Bunton is reported to have been looking down at his gas gage when he crossed the median in his Nissan pickup and collided head on with a Pontiac Grand Prix containing five people. Everyone, including Bunton's passenger - his wife Shirley Bunton was wearing a seatbelt and despite the violence of the crash injuries were described as minor to serious. All seven people involved in the accident were transported to local hospitals.

Late on Friday night, an accident south of the Prineville Reservoir injures five people, trapping one in his car. Forty three year old Terry Williams of Prineville was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup with passenger John Schnabele when he crossed the center line and collided with a Ford Escape. Jacob Woodmansee of Bend and Zachary Collins of Prineville were in the escape suffering minor injuries. The driver Jerry Long of Prineville was trapped inside the vehicle.
