La Pine Masked Armed Robber Strikes Again

6/4/09 La Pine

The man in the above surveillance video is believed to be the suspect in two La Pine armed robberies. The most recent Wednesday night, when he robbed the Quick Stop Market located on Highway 97 in La Pine with what's believed to be a semi-automatic handgun. The suspect was wearing a mask. He is described as a white man thirty years or older, five nine to five ten, medium build with a gray goatee or mustache and wearing plaid jacket with a gray hood. He got away with four hundred dollars in cash.

"The way everything is and the fact that we are in a recession, nothing surprises me anymore," says Michelle Turner a customer at the Quick Stop Market.

Less than a block away, the La Pine Liquor Store was robbed last month. KOHD News has surveillance video from both robberies. A side by side comparision shows similarities that lead detectives to believe he's the same man.

"They both fit similar height and weight, they are both medium built, they both are wearing masks at the time, and the fact that they were both armed at the time, and then the close proximity in time," says Lt. Kevin Dizney with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.

Workers at the La Pine Liquor store say they knew their suspect would strike again.

"And he didn't get very much money from us, so I figure he would run out of money pretty soon and do it again," says Kirsten Garcia, a clerk at the La Pine Liquor Store.
