Motorcycles, tattoos, leather jackets, and seniors? Yes, that was the scene at Stone Lodge Retirement Community in northeast Bend on Saturday.
More than a dozen motorcycle owners rode their bikes to the center. They had lunch with the residents, then put their motorcycles on full display to be judged. There were classics and newer models on the lot. For some residents, seeing the motorcycles brought back memories.
"They pick the bike they like the best. Prettiest color, best design, the one that gives them the feely goods, and they pick the number off the front and put it on their ballot," said Steve Foster, a manager at Stone Lodge Retirement Community.
"I had and Indian, my husband had a Harley. We did a lot of riding together and I got so much attention because girls weren't riding back then," said resident, Mary Cook.
The event was the first of it's kind at the retirement community but another one is being planned for next year.

Unique and very effective
What a terrific idea! I don't know that I'd call myself a "senior" at this time, though I do find myself having many such 'moments!' But I'd sure appreciate what these folks did. I rode from 11 to my late 40s when, due to injury and illness it became painfully evident that I could no longer enjoy the thing that I loved so much... the freedom of riding. It's the one thing that I truly miss that I have been told I will never be able to do again. So, thank you to all for a vicarious experience. Oh, and know that every time a nice bike cruises by.. I still whine, and my wife STILL just shakes her head and laughs!
