On October 25, 2009 at about 1:57 p.m., Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and paramedics from the Redmond Fire Department were dispatched to a single vehicle, injury crash near the intersection of Highway 97 and Eby Avenue in Terrebonne.
Upon arrival, investigating deputies found that the blue Geo Metro operated by Ford was off the northbound shoulder of the roadway. Paramedics from the Redmond Fire Department arrived and began to treat 47-year-old Bani Ford.
Further investigation and witness statements revealed that Ford had been headed northbound on Highway 97 when she attempted to turn left (westbound) onto Wimp Way. She failed to negotiate the turn and spun her vehicle around. She then headed southbound on Highway 97 and for unknown reasons veered to the left, causing the Geo to leave the roadway. After the Geo left the roadway, it flipped once, ejecting Ford from the vehicle.
Ford was flown via Airlink to Saint Charles Medical Center-Bend with non-life threatening injuries. During the crash investigation, one of the passengers, 41-year-old Bryan Foster, became uncooperative with investigating deputies and was taken into custody on the above listed charges and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail. Ford was also cited for DUII, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering (2 Counts).
None of the occupants of the Geo were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Neither Foster nor 40-year-old Cory Caswell were injured. The Oregon State Police assisted with the crash investigation. Highway 97 was closed for approximately 30 minutes and ODOT assisted with traffic control.
