EUGENE, Ore. --- Rumblings of a blackout at Autzen Stadium for Saturday's game between Oregon and USC are not being supported by the university or athletic department. Fans have been talking about it. The Ducks players themselves even made mention of it after their win Saturday at Washington.
The University of Oregon's official stance on a blackout, however, is there is no official blackout sponsored or promoted by the school.
What's ironic is Oregon's two Duck Stores at Autzen Stadium and the Valley River Center mall have been selling special black t-shirts for the Halloween night game on their center tables at the entrance to each store. One store manager even said the shirts are so popular, they've already had to place orders for more.
The "Gameday T-Shirts", as Oregon is officially calling them, range from $14 to $19. A special black hat is also available.
One member of the Oregon football department said students and fans are encouraged to wear the black shirts for ESPN's College Gameday broadcast from Eugene Saturday but would like to see yellow in the stands come kickoff later that night.
