Man survives 2,000 foot fall on Mt. Shasta

REDDING, Calif. -- A Northern California man is safe after falling on Mt. Shasta late Saturday night.
 
The 42-year-old was airlifted off the mountain early Sunday morning by California Highway Patrol and taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for serious injuries.
 
Lopez was climbing the Avalanche Gulch Route. Once he reached the Red Banks area he slipped and fell about 2,000 feet.
 
The helmet he was wearing was shattered and he reported he had hurt his hip and could not move his legs.
