UPDATE:
On November 4th at 1049 pm, a 51 year old woman called 911 to report that an unwanted male subject known to her was outside her residence refusing to leave. As the woman was on the phone with Dispatchers, the male suspect broke out a kitchen window and gained entry into the residence. The woman, who had armed herself with a handgun, ushered her 8 and 12 year old children into the bathroom as the male attempted to assault her with an improvised weapon. The woman shot the intruder then fled the residence with her children to the safety of a neighbor's house.
Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputies arrived within 5 minutes of the call and, assisted by Redmond Police Officers, entered the home and located a deceased man, identified as 41 year old Patrick Hankins, inside the residence. He is the woman's ex-husband.
Deschutes County Sheriff's Detectives are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, with the assistance of the Deschutes County District Attorney's Office. The woman has not been charged with any crime, and the names are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Any further information will be released by the District Attorney's Office.
