Detectives Uncover Illegal Pot Grown at Lebanon Home

By Jeff Skrzypek

LEBANON, Ore. -- The Linn County Sheriff's department uncovered an illegal marijuana operation in Lebanon Thursday, hidden neatly away in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

Acting on a citizen tip, detectives investigated the operation and found two separate grow rooms inside a single wide manufactured home on South 5th Road. They seized 33 marijuana plants, growing lights, ballasts and venting.

Deputies arrested Darrell Wayne Olson, age 31, and Kyle Olson, age 27, and took them to the Linn County Jail for manufacturing a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).

The Olsons contacted KEZI 9 News on Friday evening to give their side of the story.  They say the marijuana grow was for medicinal purposes, but that their card that allowed them to grow the plant legally had expired.  They are currently in the process of renewing their medical marijuana grow card.  The two were later released and are awaiting their court date.

Nearby residents say it does not surprise them that something like this happened in their neighborhood.  Many say there has been a history of drugs in some of the houses in the area.  They say it is probably because many of the people involved in the criminal activity, think they won't get caught in such an isolated area.

Residents say they're shocked something of this magnitude was taking place in their neighborhood. They say they will be on the lookout for any future drug problems in their area and hope this is latest bust is the last.
