ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Cow Creek Band of Indians have received a $2.75 million grant to help foster business growth in Roseburg.

They'll use the money to restructure the downtown riverfront area and renovate the old Douglas CoOp, which has been vacant for at least two years. The money will go towards constructing a business incubator, or a place where entrepreneurs can learn all about the aspects of maintaining a healthy business. The tribe also plans to build a secure data server in the building to offer better services for local businesses in hopes that it will also attract outside developers and businesses to come to Roseburg.

The tribe says the grant will ultimately generate lots of local jobs and stimulate the local economy, as well as make use of the space along the Umpqua River.

After accepting the grant, the Cow Creek Tribe has exactly 24 months to begin and complete construction on the new business incubator and data center. They expect it to open within the first quarter of 2011.
