Statement from the Manning Family:
Shawn was moved by ambulance on Saturday the 14th to Brooks Army Medical Center (BAMC) on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Shawn had been hospitalized for the last week at Seton Medical Center in Round Rock Texas. From Fort Hood he was transported by ambulance to Metroplex Hospital (on Nov 5th) then to Seton by life flight . Our family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Seton Medical Center, Round Rock Police Dept., all the Military personnel that have assisted us and the community of Round Rock and many others that did not leave names for their help while we stayed there.
Sunday the 15th was his birthday and he was in good spirits and is thankful to be here to celebrate with us. This birthday had a special meaning for all of us. We enjoyed a day with him and even had some laughs.
One bullet still remains in his back. He suffered a collapsed lung and that has significantly improved. He also had chest tubes which were removed on Monday. We are anticipating a transfer to Madigan Hospital on Fort Lewis in Washington in the near future. We anticipate him to remain hospitalized at Madigan but are not sure how long. Overall his physical condition is good and doctors hope he will make a full recovery with in 3 months. He is very anxious to be home at Madigan among friends and co-workers.
I do not anticipate that Shawn will make any public statement in the near future regarding his "story" and accounts of the events at Fort Hood. He is still absorbing and trying to work though this tragedy. Tuesday, Shawn was able to visit with a fellow soldier that was also injured at Fort Hood, this was very special to him.
We have had many calls for Shawn about what can be done to help and we are asking that in lieu of flowers or gifts (we cannot transport these things home for him) that anyone interested donate on his benefit at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Shawn Manning suffered 6 gunshot wounds Thursday at Fort Hood Texas. He is still hospitalized and is now in stable condition.
Shawn currently lives in Lacey, Washington with his wife Autumn.
Shawn's father and stepmother are Larry and Sonya Manning from Redmond Oregon. His mother is Shari Taylor of Twin Falls and Hailey Idaho. Brother, Todd and Stephanie Manning from Colorado Springs Colorado. Sister Kym and Eric Lott of Twin Falls, Idaho. Brother, Bryan Manning of Hailey, Idaho.
Shawn was born in Twin Falls and he attended school in Jerome and Twin Falls Idaho.
He attended college at Idaho State University majoring in Psychology.
He joined the Army in 2000 and has served twice in Iraq in 2003 and 2006.
He had been called back to active duty in October and was preparing for a 3rd deployment.
Shawn is currently a Staff Sgt for the Combat Stress Unit in the 467th Medical Detachment Unit.
The family appreciates all the thoughts and support of our communities. No interviews will be done at this time and the family is asking that their privacy be respected.
