Man Missing Near Terrebonne -UPDATE: Body Found

On November 16, 2009 the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue members and Detectives continued their efforts to locate 22 year old Jeff Johnson of Wilsonville.  Johnson's remains were located in the Crooked River Gorge with the assistance of 36 volunteer members of SAR, at approximately 2:00 pm.  Johnson's remains were found below the Ogden Way State Park.  This was the second day searching for Johnson, after his vehicle had been found in the area on November 14, 2009.   

 

Detectives are continuing their investigations to determine if more information can be obtained regarding Johnson's activities prior to his body being recovered.   There is no information to indicate Johnson as the victim of foul play.   If there are any changes based on continued investigations, additional media releases will follow.

On November 14, 2009 the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into a missing person complaint, involving Jeff Johnson of Wilsonville. The investigation began after a Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Deputy located Johnson's vehicle on Wimp Way in Deschutes County, just outside of Terrebonne. Johnson's vehicle was found unoccupied and containing personal belongings, causing the Deputy to make further attempts to locate the vehicles registered owner; Johnson.

 

While making inquiries as to the possible location for Johnson, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office received information Johnson's family was filing a missing persons report for Johnson with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Once this report had been filed, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office began an area search for Johnson where his vehicle had been located. This search consisted of Search and Rescue volunteers from both Deschutes and Jefferson Counties.

 

On November 15, 2009 a thorough search by SAR members, along with Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Detectives and Deputies was conducted. The search lasted over an 8 hour period and turned up no evidence or leads as to the location for Johnson. At this time there are no indications of foul play with Johnson's disappearance. Johnson's family has been updated on the search efforts in Deschutes County and advised further efforts will continue as information is developed. The areas searched for Johnson included Wimp Way, Ogden View Point, and the Crook River Gorge. All these areas are within or close in proximity to the Ogden View State Park, which borders Jefferson and Deschutes Counties.
