Structure Fire: 5th & Greenwood, Redmond

Cause:  Portable heater too close to combustibles.
Estimated loss of building: $75,000
Estimated loss of contents: $50,000
 
A fire destroyed most of a business in downtown Redmond Tuesday morning.  The Junk Store on NW 5th Street caught fire just before 7 a.m.  The building contains three businesses but firefighters were able to keep flames contained to The Junk Store.
Firefighters had to shut down part of 5th and 6th Streets to access hydrants. The store's owner was not present at the time.  Much of the items inside the store were damaged by smoke or water.

Redmond Fire is working a structure fire in the area of NW 5th and NW Greenwood in Redmond.  Currently 5th and 6th St in that area are shut down. Deschutes County 911 dispatchers said they got the initial call around 6:45 of a blaze in a commercial building housing The Junk Store, at 728 NW Fifth Ave at the north end of downtown Redmond. KOHD News reporters are on scene and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
