The Bend Fired Department demonstrated what **not** to do if you're planning on deep frying a turkey for Thanksgiving. If done improperly, it can spark an immediate fire. You should never drop a frozen turkey into an overfilled fryer with oil that's too hot. The oil that caused this explosion today was over 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
"These things don't come with a thermostat. They're just going to get hotter and hotter. If you don't monitor the temperature and turn it down manually you can have a real big problem on your hands and ruin your Thanksgiving day in short order," says Jeff Bond, Deputy Bend Fire Marshall.
