8/19/2010 - Maupin

Now being called the Lower Deschutes Fire Complex, a set of fires near Maupin has shut down recreation on the river from Maupin City Park to Sandy Beach. Multiple campgrounds and the Oaks Springs fish hatchery have been evacuated and the city of Maupin itself is on pre-evacuation notice, residents told to have a bag packed ready to go. In total the fires have burned 3700 acres and are just twenty percent contained. Unpredictable winds have been proving a challenge. Multiple helicopters and ground crews are working on the blaze.
