SALEM, Ore. -- Monday was another one of those odd days on the calendar. It was "National Clean Off Your Desk Day."
While you may not think a little clutter here or there will cause any harm, professional organizers say it can actually lead to stress, anxiety, and even depression.
Kristin Bertilson, the owner of Queen B Organizing, says a messy desk is more than just an eyesore.
She says it leads to less family time, makes it difficult to keep track of your expenses, and can make you feel like you don't have control of your life.
"A clean desk just gives you a clean sense of mind, you feel good about yourself, you feel good about your life, you know that you can overcome your paper monster so to speak, and then you can just move on with your day," said Queen B Organizing Owner Kristin Bertilson.
At work, Bertilson says a messy desk reduces productivity, doesn't allow you to function properly or perform at your job to the fullest, and wastes both paper and time.
Bertilson recommends getting see-through bins with labels for your accessories, creating a mail center with files, and making sure what you care about and use most is within arms reach.
Bertilson says even if you didn't take part in Monday's "National Clean Off Your Desk Day," it's never too late to get organized.
