EUGENE, Ore. -- Wikipedia and several other websites will protest anti-piracy legislation making its way through congress Wednesday.
They plan to go dark for 24 hours.
Congress is considering three different bills aimed at stopping the sales of pirated US products overseas.
Supporters say the legislation is needed to protect intellectual property and jobs.
Critics say the bills would censor web sites in the US.
"The main concern is the ability of government to shut down websites based on the activities of third parties," said UO School of Journalism and Communication Dean Tim Gleason.
Gleason says his other concern is just the breadth of power given to government to shut down websites and thereby control content.
