Man Fights County

10/22/07 Redmond

Steve Kulin moved his business to Redmond in 1998 and has since doubled his sales.  He bought the property to raise his family and build his business on it, which was allowed.  Now his 6600 acres business is too large for its location and Deschutes County wants him to reduce its size or move closer to town to be in compliance.

Kulin is legally blind and walks with a limp and wants the county to make an exception.  The county doesn't allow commercial activity in residential areas.  Kulin says it wouldn't be easy for him to move.  He has memorized the layout of the land and can find things easily.

Again, the county says his business goes against state code and in addition to that, ADA requirements for the disabled are not part of a home occupation code.
