An ATV accident claimed the life of a 22 year old Madras man Friday. The Crook County Sheriff's Office, Fire and Rescue, Air Link, and the US Forest Service responded to an ATV crash on US Forest Service road 2725, 30 miles north of Prineville. A preliminary investigation revealed 22 year old Travis Tolman failed to negotiate a curve and hit a large boulder off the shoulder of the road. He received severe head trauma and other injuries from the crash. He was initially taken by a private vehicle to McKay Creek Road where efforts were made to stabilize him before being air lifted to St. Charles Medical Center Bend. Tolman died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital Friday night.
Friends riding with Tolman said he was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. The case is still under investigation but the Crook County Sheriff's Office says speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
