A small fire filled the Tumalo Country Store with smoke this just before noon today. It was quickly brought under control, in part, because of a couple of local boy scouts. Thomas and Joseph Watson from Boy Scout Troop #25 were set up near the side door of the Tumalo Country Store selling popcorn for a fundraiser, when they saw smoke. Twelve year old Joseph Watson saw smoke and quickly called for his thirteen year old brother Thomas.
"Well my brother was like, oh, Thomas come here cause he was not sure what was happening. I came in and I look and there is all this smoke filling the hall and it kept getting out bigger and bigger," said Thomas Watson.
The boys notified the store manager who found the bathroom trash to be on fire. He was able to get it under control with a fire extinguisher. The Bend Fire Department responded to the incident saying the likely cause, a cigarette thrown in the trash.
