On Wednesday July 1, at approximately 12:40 p.m. a  Mitsubishi coupe driven by Michelle M. Nutter, age 52, of Central Point, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 114 at the Rex T Barber Bridge, when, for an unknown reason, her vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of travel and collided head on with a Ford F-350 crew cab pick-up driven by David Jasper, age 49, of Bend.

Both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lane of travel. As a result of the impact the 2002 Ford pick-up flipped coming to rest onto its top.

Nutter, was reportedly extricated from the vehicle and transported by ambulance for serious injuries, to an unknown local area hospital.

Jasper, and his passenger Sharon Murphy, age 47, of Bend were transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond for injuries resulting from the crash.

All involved parties were reportedly wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash. Airbags in both vehicles reportedly activated at the time of the collision.

OSP Troopers from the Bend Area Command are continuing the investigation.  Deschutes County Sheriffs Office, local area Fire and Rescue personnel, and ODOT assisted at the scene.

A portion of Highway 97 was closed to one-lane of travel for over two hours.
