Your Voice: Council Refuses to Hear Appeal

07/02/09 Bend

The Bend City Council has refused to hear an appeal against the expansion of beds at the Shepherd's House homeless shelter from 32 to 60.  It will now go to the State Land Use Board of Appeals.  We ask if you think city councilors should have heard the appeal or not?

"I feel like they might be passing the buck because it's a very political thing.  Maybe passing on the state might get a discussion on it," says Dorothy Lee of Bend.

"I think bend should see the appeal because it's a local issue," says Karren Fox of Bend.

"The side that would have been opposed would have already taken it to the land use board so it makes sense that they wouldn't get involved because there is no use," says Megan of Bend.

"I think they should see it locally because they're more in touch with the needs of the community," says Paul Berhar of Bend.
