Direct Connect: Deschutes County 911

08/12/09 Bend

Becky McDonald, the director of Deschutes County 911 joins us to talk about the responsibilities at 911. Earlier this month, lightning storms pounded the region, all over Deschutes County. Lightning strikes at homes, fields, trees, power poles and all of that. Deschutes County dispatch was flooded with calls. It brought up the question, how does dispatch prioritize calls? What happens when they run out of units to send, what do you tell people? What's the level of response dispatch can handle. In severe weather events, how many calls do they deal with?
