In this ‘You Ask; We Answer," Bill says, ‘The city has torn up the water valve boxes asphalt in the roadway. Why?"

The City of Bend says it's doing that in preparation for its street restoration program.  The water department wants to make sure that valve boxes are in good condition before that area gets milled.

"The milling is part of the process of taking of the top part of asphalt, the part with all the distress and the oxidation, and then they put new asphalt on top if it in its place and that way you don't continue to raise the level of the street," says Hardy Hanson, Bend's Street Manager.

This year's project is funded by federal stimulus money and should be permanently patched up in the spring.
