In this ‘You Ask; We Answer' M.P. asks, "Why is there a $25.00 parking fee per year for High Students to park their vehicles at school during the school day? My son is a junior at Mountain View High School. I think it's ridiculous! We are already taxed. Seems like a way to "double tax" us!"
The money is used to pay for a campus monitor who patrols the parking lot. It's also used for parking lot maintenance. All three Bend high schools charge a parking fee. Summit High has charged one for the past seven years.
"Every year we get a parent who questions it because they consider this public grounds but there again it is optional the students don't have to park within the confines of the school, so they can park outside and not purchase a parking permit, so it is optional," explains Kris Wifts of Summit High School.
Students only need to buy one permit which can be used on any car.

They can
Therefore they do. I hear next year they will offer optional valet service at the schools for an introductory fee (not tax) FEE!!!
Small price to pay...
C'mon folks. Are we really bickering about $25 per YEAR?! I think I can safely say that if we can afford to let our kids drive our cars (not to mention the kids that already have their own cars and are paying for their own fuel and possibly even their own insurance), we/they can afford a fee that costs less than 7 cents per day? I don't know about all of you, but IMHO, that's a small price to pay (in the case of the kid using our car) to have the vehicle parked in a location that is monitored all day long. Wouldn't you agree?
At my Sheldon High School in
At my Sheldon High School in Eugene (my old school) they charge $50 for a parking permit so no complaints people and that was as of 2007
