COCC Sells Land

11/04/09 Bend

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Central Oregon Community College Board of Directors unanimously agreed to sell five acres atop Awbrey Butte for $1,200,000.  The land was donated to the college in 1962 and was once used as an observatory site.  It was abandoned several years ago and the land divided into three lots in 2004.  The land is steep and rocky, surrounded by upscale homes.

An offer to buy the three properties for $1.2 million was made but required an answer by 5 pm November 5th.  The offer is contingent upon the buyer having 60 days to perform an inspection.  COCC says the offer was made by Calvin Cannon.

It is unclear how the college will use the money.
