Emergency Landing

11/13/09

Two helicopter pilots caught by surprise in poor flying conditions are now on the ground after landing their chopper along Interstate Five near the Siskiyou Summit.

The Bend pilots were on their way to Salem when they made the call to land.  Their trip began in South Lake Tahoe and ended abruptly this afternoon when weather conditions became too dangerous to fly in.

"We got shut out in this snowstorm that's moving from Oregon to California," says one of the pilots, Christopher Jordan, "so all up until here we were in really good weather and kind of got shut out in this little canyon here."

The chopper will remain on the ground near milemarker 6 "southbound" at the Callahans exit until the storm clears.
