You Ask. We Answer.

01/19/10 Bend

In this ‘You Ask; We Answer," Neil asks, "WHEN is ODOT or the City of Bend going to stagger traffic at Empire Avenue and 3rd Street for east- and westbound traffic on Empire? SOOOOO many near misses and conflicts, especially during rush hour in the morning and evening from left turning vehicles across straight ahead traffic! ODOT says the intersection doesn't have the "traffic count" to warrant this...spend a little time there and see what you think..."

The Oregon Department of Transportation has been studying this intersection and does plan to make changes in 2011.  ODOT will create a dedicated left turn lane and update signals.

"Perhaps one of the busiest left turn intersections that we have in the immediate vicinity here, so yes, it is part of our plan for the year 2011 so as we're making improvements along highway 97 and highway 20 we are going to make improvements to that intersection," says Peter Murphy with ODOT.

When is ODOT

Going to start actually doing their job ? Lets see,,,they know they have a problem but were going to fix it in 2011 ? Come on ODOT get off your butts and do your jobs.
Someone from ODOT also needs to be heading west on Powers Rd and try turning left onto 3rd St. Good luck, your thrown into the opposite lane immediately and stareing at a head on collision before you can even react. If Oregon wanted to cut the fat on state spending just get rid of ODOT and outsouce it`s work.
