Local Soccer Players Make Nationals

They practice a lot.

They hit the gym three times a week.

And they're going to have their chance to try out for the National Team pool.

12-year-old Zach Emerson and 13-year-old Miguel Martin will head to Boston in August for a week of training from national coaches.

Martin is a goal keeper and he explains how it works,  "From national camp they take the top 60 players.  Split that into 2 teams and they see who's the best of the best throughout the entire United States."

Emerson says his local coaches make all the difference. "We have a great program, Central Oregon Rush - A lot of great coaches and they do a lot to train you."

Miguel's mom, Patty Freeman-Martin, just tries to keep up.
"With Miguel we just follow him, we're just following him.  He keeps finding these opportunities and he keeps achieving goals.  And we're like, 'OK we'll get you there.'"

Zach says he's looking forward to the opportunity, "It's a huge deal for me.  It's something I've looked forward to doing, going to Boston anyways, and I get to go for soccer tryouts so it's really great."

From these national trials they get to be in a pool of soccer players that can be selected to go anywhere in the nation... or world.
