Multi Car Crash Closes Highway

11/05/07  Highway 97  A portion of Highway 97 was closed all day Monday after a multiple car crash south of Klamath Falls.  Fog was so thick the chain reaction pile-up involved fourteen vehicles just after 7a.m.

One person died; several others were injured. The initial investigation shows a jeep rear ended a semi-truck triggering the chain reaction.

An accident reconstruction team from Bend went to the accident site, six miles north of the Oregon-California border to help determine the exact sequence of events.

Highway 97 was closed in both directions all day, causing a backup stretching more than eight miles.
