Good Times

10/29/08

75 degrees and sunny in late October?  In Bend, I believe it.  But on the Oregon Coast?  It was a fortunate weather weekend for my wedding anniversary near Pacific City...especially since we decided to camp on the coast!

We spent the first night in a tent right off the beach, and it was wonderful to hear the (very large) waves crashing on shore...although the temperatures definitely dipped down at night...chillingly apparent even with four layers of bedding piled on.

The next night we upgraded to a YURT, or Year-round Universal Recreational Tent (I didn't know that's what it stood for!), with the luxuries of electricity, windows, mattresses, and a HEATER!

Our days were filled with sea water, as we stretched on the wetsuits and tumbled into the endless waves with the boogieboard (my husband Matt even got out there with his surf board).   We also hiked through the forest, marveling whenever we saw old growth trees towering above us, and wishing there were more of them still standing.

We enjoyed fresh, huge Yaquina Bay oyster shooters (I love them raw, but Matt can barely choke them down...but he did, because he's a brave man and he loves me!).

Spectacular sunsets gave way to hours and hours by the campfire...spending time with my lifelong companion, my best friend, my husband.  We celebrated our 2nd year of marriage, but our anniversary also marks 7.5 years together (although we met well before then...in middle school on Maui!).

I am thankful to have such a caring, funny, intelligent, talented, unique individual in my life, with a love that is so effortless, and so much fun!  We are lucky to have each other, and we make sure to never forget that.

Here's to many more years of adventure, love and laughter...and to the warmth and spirit of Summer, even when the calendar calls for Autumn.
