You Ask. We Answer.

11/26/08 Bend

In this You Ask, We Answer, Michael in Bend asks, "From our house we can kinda' make out the Old Mill area about a mile or so away. In the mornings we see billows of steam rising from a location possibly near Reed Market Road. And there's another billow maybe near Industrial Way. Are there industries that use steam down there?"

The steam that you see is coming from the Ready Mix Division of Hooker Creek.  You can also see it on most days from Highway 97 going south.

"The steam that you see coming from our plant is from the process of heating up the water to make warm water to be used in the concrete mix so that the concrete cures correctly when it gets placed in the cold weather," says Barrie Durfee, Manager of Hooker Creek Ready Mix Division.

The steam is more visible in the cooler, less humid months.
